Dear collegues,
We are glad to inform you, that international training course in Austria "SKILLS FOR POWER" is approved. :)
The international training course "SKILLS FOR POWER" will take place in Graz, Austria from 9th - 16th of October, 2005. And there will participate 15 young people from Austria, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia and Romania. The language of training course is English.
Independent Living is about choice, control and equal opportunities. Throughout history disabled people were neglected, oppressed and discriminated against. They were taught, they are poor, are not able to do anything and have no rights. Not to talk about that their lives are still at stake thinking about the discussion on Euthanasia. Most disabled people are not aware of their skills, think, they got no rights and so on. Also they are as a group and as individual disadvantaged in and by society. To change the situation just a bit and to make ways free for more independence, disabled people should be aware of their skills, proud about themselves. Therefore it needs a training course for the Independent Living Skills. Through this training course we would like to show young disabled people, that there is this possibility to be in charge of their own life and it is possible to do the things they want to do, to be involved in society more than they are right now. Through this training course young disabled people would understand, that they have a lot of possibilities to do lot of things by themselves. And one of those possibilities are EU YOUTH programme as the priority for YOUTH programme is people with less opportunities (as disabled people are disadvantaged part of society). In general this training course will be focused on Independent Living skills and EU YOUTH programme to have possibility to make contacts for future corporation and get to know something more about EU YOUTH programme.
Throughout the course we will try to meet the needs of the participants. This means there will be accessible accomodation, as accessible as it is possible. We also take care about needs of the participants and all methods will be rearranged if it is necessary to meet that needs.
